? Light & Placement
Thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates medium light levels. Avoid harsh midday sun to prevent leaf scorch. Perfect for east or north-facing windowsills or styled on bookshelves with filtered light.
? Water & Humidity
Allow the top half of the soil to dry before watering. Overwatering is its main enemy – treat it like a semi-succulent. Average household humidity is sufficient.
? Soil & Potting
Use a well-draining mix with added perlite or orchid bark. Repot every 2-3 years or when rootbound, preferably in spring.
? Toxicity & Safety
Non-toxic and pet-safe, making it a worry-free choice for homes with cats or dogs.
? Growth & Propagation
Slow to moderate growth. Propagate easily from stem cuttings or leaf cuttings in water or directly in moist soil during spring or summer.
? Seasonal & Special Care
Reduce watering in winter when growth slows. Wipe leaves occasionally to keep them dust-free and glossy.
? Common Issues
Overwatering leads to root rot. Watch for mealybugs or fungus gnats if soil remains damp too long.
? Botanical Background
Peperomia obtusifolia is native to Central and South America’s tropical regions. ‘Green Gold’ is a striking variegated cultivar prized for its radiant colour contrast and robust, succulent-like structure.
